Caterpillar Inc. is a United States based company headquartered in Peoria, Illinois. CAT is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of construction and mining equipment, industrial gas turbines, and diesel and natural gas engines. Caterpillar also produces a vast range of heavy equipment, mainly engineering vehicles, such as the Caterpillar D9 bulldozer.

A bulldozer is a very powerful crawler (caterpillar tracked tractor), which is equipped with a blade. The first bulldozer was adapted from tractors, which were initially used to plough fields. Their adaptability in soft ground used in road building lead them to become the durable tank in the first war. In 1923, a draftsman named J.Earl McLeod and James Cummings, a young farmer, designed the first bulldozer. The Caterpillar 60 was the most common tracked vehicle in the 1920’s. This was mainly used to raise earth dams, dig canals, and do other earth moving jobs. Blade was a thick metal plate was found in these tractors. For the tractor to advance the blade peels layers of soil and then pushes it forward.

Uses of Caterpillar Dozer or Crawlers: The term bulldozer is mainly used to mean any heavy engineering vehicle, but precisely this term is used only for a tractor fitted with a dozer blade. The first successful bulldozer in the world was the Caterpillar Sixty Horsepower tractor crawler. It thus helped in launching the Caterpillar name. Initially, in California the Holt Company developed this; with a tricycle type crawler having rear drive tracks and a forward steering wheel. In the early 1920’s Holt and Best continued to build them, and with the merger in 1925 they formed Caterpillar Tractor Company. The Cat sixty is famous for its lever controls, overhanging radiator, individually mounted cylinders, and their open clutch. Cat sixty was known as work machine because it had features like a straight exhaust, rough seat and exposed fuel tank. Initially, the crawlers were used as road scrappers and to pull farm equipment, as they did not have blades in the front. Later, cable lift blades were assembled so that the crawlers could be used as bulldozers.
