Uses of Caterpillar Dozer or Crawlers: The term bulldozer is mainly used to mean any heavy engineering vehicle, but precisely this term is used only for a tractor fitted with a dozer blade. The first successful bulldozer in the world was the Caterpillar Sixty Horsepower tractor crawler. It thus helped in launching the Caterpillar name. Initially, in California the Holt Company developed this; with a tricycle type crawler having rear drive tracks and a forward steering wheel. In the early 1920’s Holt and Best continued to build them, and with the merger in 1925 they formed Caterpillar Tractor Company. The Cat sixty is famous for its lever controls, overhanging radiator, individually mounted cylinders, and their open clutch. Cat sixty was known as work machine because it had features like a straight exhaust, rough seat and exposed fuel tank. Initially, the crawlers were used as road scrappers and to pull farm equipment, as they did not have blades in the front. Later, cable lift blades were assembled so that the crawlers could be used as bulldozers.
