In Sweden, higher education is divided into undergraduate educa¬tion and postgraduate studies and research. The use of the English language in any university or university college in Sweden, varies according to the available academic programs. The tuition fees for higher education in Sweden are subsidized by the government, though there are some exceptions.
University College in Sweden: The University Colleges in Sweden conduct important research and maintain their main operations to provide the education required for specialization. This includes the Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, as well as the corresponding professional degrees in Swedish. A University college in Sweden can qualify to the stature of a University.
There is no ordinance or law in Sweden that defines the qualities of a University. However, traditionally the existence of at least four faculties, considerable undergraduate education, an important research activity and quarterly education is essential. University Colleges that award undergraduate degrees and conduct research and development in arts are referred to as Academies of the Arts. Swedish Universities offering instruction in English: Most of the educational institutions in Sweden offer programs in Swedish, the official language. However, there are undergraduate courses available in English, making them accessible to international students. Even then, a full time undergrauate program can have most parts that demand a very good command of Swedish, written and spoken. Only exchange students can be taught in English at the undergraduate level.

Around 300 Master’s degree programs in English are now available. These are available in laws of human rights, medicine and engineering. Doctorate and research programs do not require Swedish language skills. Students however should be fluent in the English language.
