Lower stomach pain

Lower Stomach Pain in the Right PortionLower stomach pain in the right portion of the abdomen can be caused by an inflammation of the colon, or apendicitis. Normally apendicitis generally gives a painful sensation around the navel area however it has been known to spread as lower stomach pain to the right side. An inflammation of the colon, or 'colitis', is can be caused by various things, and in some cases may not neccesarily affect the colon but rather other parts of the large intestines too. Thus the pain that manifests from it as a result may not be specific to the lower stomach pain in the right side. There are several types of colitis including microscopic colitis, chemical colitis, diversion colitis, ulcerative colitis and typical colitis. Most of these produce the same sort of pain, however some have more nasty symptoms including fever, bleeding erythema, and ulcerations of the colon. If a lower stomach pain in the right portion does not abate, it would be wise to see a doctor.
Lower Stomach Pain in the Left PortionIf suffering from lower stomach pain in the left portion, it is most likely a sign of some problem in the lower colon. One possible problem would be diverticulitis. Diverticulitis is a condition that mostly affects older people, above 60 or so. It is normal at this age for various 'pouches' to have formed along the digestive tracks, mostly in the large intestines, and these bulging pouches are known as diverticula. These pouches are not a problem initially, and many people live long and healthy lives without even being aware of their presence, however, if they become inflamed they can cause a variety of discomfurtures including pain and nausea. This is called diverticulitis and it normally manifests as a lower stomach pain on the left portion of the abdomen. While normally this condition can be treated with antibiotics, some serious cases can lead to surgery in which the affected part of the intestines is removed.
Does The Side of the Lower Stomach Pain Matter?Above the problems that can induce both left and right side lower stomach pains show that yes, generally different problems do manifest their pain in different portions of the abdomen. However, it is never entirely as simple as that seeing as pain very often radiates, as with the case where apendicitis pain can radiate to the right side. That being said, medical experts can very often at least narrow down the list of possible conditions, and in some cases even come up with a proper diagnosis simply by knowing the side of the lower stomach pain as well as the other symptoms suffered by a patient. Even in cases of migrating pain, if a patient is aware of where the pain began, and where it spread to, this could help tremendously to.
Could A Lower Stomach Pain Migrate As Far As The Back?In some conditions, what begins as lower stomach pain can spread to various other places including the back, shoulders, chest, and many others. Most of these cases are called "referred pain". Two common conditions that very often manifest pain in other areas are gallbladder inflammations and pancreas disorders. A gallbladder inflammation can radiate pain into the back, and right up to the chest, while a pancreas disorder very often causes pain between the shoulder blades.
