Fox Network’s American Idol: Fox Network’s American Idol created waves across the country when its first part was screened. A creation of Simon Fuller, former manager of the Spice Girls, it was directed by Bruce Gowers, Nigel Lythgoe, Simon Fuller (creator) and Ken Warwick. The show won the 2005 Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Award for the favorite television show. It also won the number one spot on Nielsen Ratings for two years in a row.

In the show, contestants are screened by a panel of judges, who look for singing talent, and humorous potential, amongst them. They are present an audition in the presence of the three main judges - Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, and Randy Jackson – in cities across the United States. Those selected move on to the second round auditions, which take place in Hollywood. Once in Hollywood, the judges start with the eliminations, and the group comes down to 24 semi-finalists. Each contestant performs a song and receives critiques from the judges.

Viewers are allowed to vote for their favorite contestant, by calling a toll-free number. At the end of the semifinal rounds, six men and six women advance to the finals. Winners are selected purely on the basis of voting.

The finals are conducted at CBS Television City in Los Angeles, California, in front of a live studio audience. The stage is then moved to the Kodak Theatre for the final showdown, where the two remaining contestants perform for an audience of at least 3,400. The result is announced at the end of the show. The winner gets million (US) dollars as prize money, and a five-album major record deal.
