Employee connection

Employee connection at Macy’s departmental stores: It used to be a daily routine at each and every Macy’s department store for the store manager to stand on the escalator and address the employees. The store manager would stand five steps up the escalator from the ground level, as the employees from all over the store would assemble for an early morning meeting. The manager would then talk about the current sales, give reminders, and state any special store hours. This was the daily morning scenario at all the Macy’s stores from Maine to Florida. This was how Macy’s handled their employee connection.
However, due to shifts, there were many employees who would start work later in the day; so they did not know what was happening at the morning meetings. Apart from this, some stores were so large that it was difficult for all the employees to be present at the escalator for the morning meetings. Macy’s realized that there was an urgent need to devise a more efficient and effective way to connect to the employees. Hence, an electronic communication system, in the form of an electronic bulletin board, was set up at Macy’s stores in New Jersey, New York and down the coastline, which has proven to be an excellent method of employee connection.
