Terry Greenberg is the editor of this journal. Attorney John James Dillard, with his business partner, Thad Tubbs, originally founded the Lubbock Avalanche. Dillard sold the newspaper to James Lorenzo Dow in the year 1908. In 1922, the Avalanche became a daily newspaper, and after one year, a morning edition was added. The Avalanche merged with its rival company, the Lubbock Daily Journal, to form the Lubbock Avalanche Journal. In 1972, the Morris Communications Corporation of Augusta, Georgia, acquired both the Lubbock Avalanche Journal and Amarillo Globe News.
