The fare was 15 cents for a ride, and the service became a popular one. This caused him to buy more number of buses, which he painted in battleship gray. The people claimed that the buses resembled streaking greyhound dogs and the name stuck, taking up the dog as the logo.

The modernization of the old building took place for the first time in 1976 and was then closed in 1987 until restoration reached completion. As of now, it serves the 1100 New York Avenue office building as a lobby and storefronts and has a General Enquiry section inside as well as a ticket booth and an explanatory display operating on weekdays.
